Uzbekistan: Letters of Consent for Trademark Registration Must Now Follow New Rules

30.10.26

The Intellectual Property Agency of Uzbekistan is applying an updated procedure for registering designations similar to the point of confusion with protected trademarks. Under paragraph 10 of the Administrative Regulation approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 480 of 19.09.2023 (as amended by Resolution No. 375 of 09.07.2026), registration requires a written letter of consent from the owner of the "senior" trademark. The document must contain the full details of both parties, images of both designations, the list of goods, and the date of execution.

☝️The change concerns the form of the letter of consent: the owner's signature must be notarized, and documents executed abroad must be legalized or apostilled.

The innovation is critically important for trademark owners, patent attorneys, and lawyers and intellectual property specialists handling brand registration. Failure to comply with the requirements for certifying the letter of consent may become grounds for refusing registration of a similar designation.
