New Law Requires Use of Russian in Public Signage

25.06.25

A new federal law adopted on June 24, 2025, introduces a mandatory requirement for consumer-facing information—such as signs, direction indicators, and notice boards in shops, cafés, offices, and public transport—to be displayed in Russian.

Translations into foreign languages are permitted, provided that the Russian version is equally prominent in terms of size, font, and positioning. Certain exceptions apply, including for registered trademarks.
