Uzbekistan to introduce criminal liability for violation of IP

Starting from November 8, 2025, the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan will be in force as amended by new articles: 1491, 1492 and 1493, introducing liability for violation of copyright, rights to means of individualization and patent rights, respectively. Punishment ranges from a fine to imprisonment. In case the infringer has compensated damages, punishment associated with imprisonment is excluded; and in case of a first-time offense, exemption from liability is provided.
