Places of origin of goods and geographical indications: clarification of illegal use

From July 28, amendments to Article 1537 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, paragraph 3, come into force, which provides for liability for illegal use of marks indicating the place of origin of goods and geographical indications. In particular, the cases of applying measures of responsibility have been expanded: an indication has been added regarding the illegality of using an unregistered geographical indication, as well as similar designations, and the use of a protection mark on goods that do not possess the characteristics specified in the State Register.
The amendments are enacted by Federal Law No. 230-FZ dated July 26, 2019.
